It looks like Bridgerton fans are in for a lot of juicy drama and steamy sex scenes. Or at least that’s what everyone is hoping for, right? Actress Nicola Coughlin says that fans can expect to see some fireworks between her character Penelope Featherington and her long term crush Colin Bridgerton. Here’s what you need to know!
Boughlin revealed the news that season three of the hugely popular Netflix period drama will tell the love story of her Penelope and Colin, who is played by Luke Newton. On Instagram, she wrote alongside a black and white photo of herself and Newton: “Like Lady Whistledown I’ve been keeping quite a big secret for quite a long time… but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope’s Story.”

Coughlan told Netflix‘s Tudum of the upcoming storyline: “I feel like if you see Penelope fawning over this boy for another season, you’ll be like, ‘Get it together! Come on, move on and get over it. Jess has talked to Luke and I through the season, and I think people are going to be really obsessed. I think book fans are going to be happy.”
The show, based on a series of books of the same name by Julia Quinn, follows the eight siblings of the Bridgerton family as they attempt to find love in Regency England. Speaking to Tatler about the fact that Kardashian and the Duchess of Cambridge are fans of the show, Coughlan said: “It’s crazy to think that something you made has been seen by that many people in the world. It’s quite mind-blowing.”
Back in March, Coughlin said that Bridgerton’s popularity has been “mindblowing” so far for her. Speaking about her on-and-off-screen close friend Claudia Jessie, Coughlan said: “She’s a vegan Buddhist, she lives on a canal boat and only wears second-hand clothes. “To talk to her is fascinating.”
Last year, Netflix had announced that it renewed the Regency-era drama from Shonda Rhimes for a third and fourth season. Yet, the announcement came only a few days after it was reported that breakout star Rege-Jean Page (Simon Bassett) would not be returning to reprise his role. However, the second season will focus on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) love life in the steamy series.
