The Sandals Resort in Exuma, Bahamas has some explaining to do. Michael and Robbie Phillips of Tennessee were vacationing there in a beachside villa but were mysteriously found dead Friday morning around 9 AM by staff. They were sharing the villa with another couple, Vincent and Donnis Chiarella who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.

The Chiarella’s son said that the morning before his mother woke up with her hands and feet swollen and she was unable to move. The night before two of the guests had sought medical attention, complaining of nausea and vomiting, the doctor reccommended that they are airlifted off the island but refused.

Unfortunately, Michael and Robbie Phillips along with Vincent Chiarella were all found dead in the morning. The Phillips family released a statement saying that their hearts were broken but also full of hope.

A friend of the Chiarellas said that the only thing that made sense to them was the couples were all breathing the same air in the villa. Vincent was found on the floor, all three dead had shown signs of having convulsions, Donnis was on the bed practically paralyzed and covered in rashes according to her brother.

Speculation says that perhaps it was something to do with the ventilation system that went wrong, especially since one commenter on the Sandal’s Facebook page said that the air conditioning unit had not been working all week and that people were coming to fix it every day.

A pathologist interviewed by Inside Edition said that it could be a toxic coolant leak as well. Right now, Sandals Resort is working with a Philadelphia-based lab in order to figure out what on earth could have gone wrong. The toxicology results have not come back yet, which could take weeks.

While we’re speculating it could also be possibly the result of a spider bite, having swollen legs and feet sounds sort of like bite symptoms if you think about it, but there was no talk of them having any sort of pain or symptoms besides nausea and vomiting.

Although, one has to wonder what on earth the doctor who examined them was seeing that he recommended that they be airlifted off the island for medical treatment. We at DSD will be following this case. Stay tuned!!!
