She’s small but she’s certainly mighty, too. There are new reports that say Queen Elizabeth has made a “generous donation” to Ukraine. It’s been a little over a week since Russian military forces have invaded the country in an unprovoked attack. Here’s what you need to know.
While Queen Elizabeth has not spoken out publicly about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, she has made a donation to support their fundraising efforts. As of press time, over one million people have fled Ukraine to seek safety in neighboring countries such as Poland and Ukraine.
Queen Elizabeth Makes A Quiet Donation To Ukraine
“Many thanks to Her Majesty The Queen for continuing to support the Disasters Emergency Committee and for making a generous donation to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal,” the group said in a tweet.
Buckingham Palace later confirmed to the Sun that the queen had made the donation with her private funds, but did not share the amount.
And while Queen Elizabeth refuses to say anything about the situation in Ukraine – as members of the British Royal Family often don’t – her son Prince Charles sure has. While both the Cambridges and Sussexes have made their own statements regarding the situation in Ukraine, Prince Charles is the first member of the royal family to actually condemn Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The prince called it “an attack on democracy” and said he was standing “in solidarity” with the people of Ukraine who are defending themselves against the Russian attack.
In a second statement, Charles had once again condemned the “truly terrible aggression” of President Putin’s invasion and he and the Duchess of Cornwall were visibly moved by stories they heard from Ukrainians living in London whose families are in Ukraine. This was when both Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles visited a Ukrainian Catholic Church in central London.
