A story claiming that Queen Elizabeth II had died has been debunked much to the relief of Royal fans.
Story Indicating That Queen Elizabeth II Had Died Has Been Debunked-‘The State Of Journalism’
The internet was set ablaze when ‘Hollywood Unlocked’ had published an article confirming the monarch’s passing. This was prior to any official Royal sources confirming or denying anything.
And yet, this did not stop the outlet from going ahead with the story. In a post that ultimately set off the choas, the publication said: “Sources close to the Royal kingdom notified us exclusively that #QueenElizabeth has passed away.
“She was scheduled to attend the wedding of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, but was found dead. Story developing.”
However, when it became clear that the reports had been erroneous, the publication had no choice but to apologise. In an official statement, the outlet said: “The intern journalist was misinformed and published the draft by mistake.”
Despite the admission that the publication was wrong, the comments generated a lot of controversy among the fans for the following reasons.
First of all, people were outraged that at a time when the monarch was suffering with Covid that such a story could be published, given the instability it would cause the country.
Secondly, in any event, the CEO of ‘Hollywood Unlocked’ (Jason Lee) continued to double down on his beliefs that their story had been published in good faith.
In a statement to his fans on Twitter, Jason said: “We don’t post lies and I always stand by my sources. Waiting for an official statement from the palace.”
The social media response to Jason was scathing indeed. Large numbers of fans demanded that they be held accountable for what they believed to be incompetent journalism.
One person wrote: “How the hell do you post something without an official source? Literally anyone with a basic knowledge of how journalism works would understand that. The state of journalism.”
Now that this story has been put to bed, the Queen can focus on getting back to her usual self. And hopefully for everyone involved, that is sooner rather than later. So there you have it folks. How did you react to this?
