If George Clooney says it, we believe it. The Hollywood actor says that his good friend Ben Affleck deserves to win another Oscar, or at least should be nominated for one, for his performance in the Amazon Prime feature “The Tender Bar.” George made his comments during an interview with Deadline. Here’s what he has to say.

George put it this way, “I have to say the thing that’s so cool about that is Ben really showed up, and he stuck his neck out, and yes, he’s gotten a SAG award nomination and a Golden Globe nomination. [Affleck] put his neck out there, and he really worked hard on this, and he hasn’t been acknowledged much as an actor, and he’s a really wonderful actor.”

The last time that George and Ben worked together was on the film “Argo.” Ben starred and directed the 2012 hit while George was a producer on the film. “The Tender Bar” is a coming-of-age drama film directed by George Clooney from a screenplay by William Monahan. Set in 1970s Long Island nine-year-old JR Maguire and his mother Dorothy move back in with his grandparents following the dissolution of her relationship with his father.

There, he forms a bond with his Uncle Charlie, the owner of a local bar. Charlie acts as a surrogate father to JR and encourages him in his pursuit of becoming a successful writer. Charlie’s mother is determined that he will go to Yale or Harvard and become a lawyer.

George further explained that Ben deserves to win all the accolades in the room because he’s not only been through the ringer, but also because he’s Hollywood’s comeback kid, over and over again. “He’s been as high as you could get,” he said. “He stood on the stage and won a couple of Oscars. He knows what it’s like to be at the top of the game, and he also has had some rough patches.”

“Some of them, as he has said many times, self-inflicted, but he’s a fighter, and he’s been out there, and he showed up on this one in such a big way and in such a gracious way, and he’s been doing it for a bit, and it’s fun to see the reactions towards him, and it’d be lovely if the same sort of attention was carried on [to the Oscars],” the father of two told the outlet. “I think he would deserve it.”
