Hollywood actor George Clooney has pleaded with the paparazzi to keep children out of their photos over fears that it could endanger them.

George, for his part, is all too aware of what intense media intrusion can do. Ever since he got together with human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, the press has been hell-bent on capturing his four-year-old twins that he shares with her.

But it was after George had apparently seen photos of US actress Billie Lourd’s one-year-old daughter being published that he decided to act. After all, he has been at the wrong end of media attention in the past.

Amal’s mother, Baria Alamuddin, had become the victim of a false story by the Mail Online. Although the newspaper issued an apology, the actor refused to acknowledge it.

While he wants to ensure that his kids remain out of the spotlight as much as possible in order to have a sense of normality, George recognises that this is part of being a high-profile celebrity.

But in an open letter, he urged the media to keep children out of their profession. He wrote: “We cannot protect our children if any publication puts their faces on their cover. We have never sold a picture of our kids.

“We are not on social media and never post pictures because to do so would put their lives in jeopardy.” This is particularly an issue that hits home, given that Amal’s work involves representing some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

She is known for representing victims who have suffered from the wars in Iraq, as well as other countries such as Syria. Therefore, the couple understand the pain that someone can experience when there is harm caused to their loved ones.

In addition, young children do not have a choice in being able to consent on such matters. He stated: “Our children have made no such commitment.

“Not paranoid jeopardy but real-world issues, with real-world consequences.” The right to privacy has always been a touchy issue when it comes to people being in the public eye. And that is something that is unlikely to change.
