It’s one thing to be loved and adored, but it’s another thing when people completely disregard you and your life. George Clooney must have felt exactly that way after his 2018 motorcycle accident in Italy.
He says that while he was laying on the ground, a crowd of strangers gathered around him, but not to help him, but rather to film him. Here’s what he has to say.
George Clooney Recalls Being Filmed By Strangers After Motorcycle Accident
In an interview with The Sunday Times, George says that his 2018 motorcycle crash felt like the “last minutes” of his life. The actor said he was convinced he would die with strangers crowding around him filming instead of trying to get help. George was filming the Hulu series “Catch 22” when he got into a motorcycle crash near Sardinia.
George put it this way, “If you’re in the public eye, what you realize when you’re on the ground thinking it’s the last minute of your life is that, for some people, it’s just going to be entertainment for their Facebook page. I’m a pretty positive guy, but that told me — clearly — that you really are here just for their entertainment.”
“I was waiting for my switch to turn off,” he told the publication George, who has two children with his wife Amal Clooney, Ella and Alexander, also opened up about some of the initial thoughts he had after his near-death experience.
George continued with, “When I hit the ground, my mouth — I thought all my teeth were broken out. But it was glass from the windshield. Although my kids were like a year old, and mostly it was just the thought that this was it and that I wasn’t gonna see them again.”
If that weren’t enough, the A-list actor recalls lying on the ground in the arms of his producer partner, Grant Heslov.
“I was on the ground. I was really screaming. Like, really screaming. And Grant came back, and he was screaming at everybody to get an ambulance, and I remember everybody got out of their cars, they stopped in the middle of the street, and all these people came and stood over me and just pulled out their phones and started taking video,” he shares.
“It’s a funny thing. I’m not a cynical guy, and I really tend to look at life and try to find the good in everything. But I’ll never forget the moment that what I thought might be my last few moments were for everyone else a piece of entertainment.”
