Prince Charles says that the younger generation is “judging us” over climate change. In fact, the future king of England has warned “the eyes of our children and grandchildren are judging us,” as he called for rapid action against climate change with the world teetering “on the brink.”
In the 1,800-word essay for US magazine Newsweek, Charles, 73, expressed his pride in his two sons for their efforts in the fight against environmental degradation. “Our problems are man-made, therefore, they can be solved by man,” Prince Charles wrote. “Man’s reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable- and we believe they can do it again.”
Prince Charles Says The Younger Generation Is ‘Judging Us’ Over Climate Change
“Once again, the world is on the brink, and we need the mobilizing urgency of a war-like footing if we are to win,” he added.
While acknowledging there is a greater consensus around the reality of climate change, he says there is “understandable frustration” of younger generations about the pace of action. “The eyes of our children and grandchildren are judging us,” the Prince of Wales concludes in the article, which features on the cover story for the magazine.
Speaking at a G20 summit in Rome back in October on the eve of the United Nations climate change meeting, the prince called on nations to agree to invest in greener economies. Prince Charles told world leaders to step up their efforts in reducing global warming as they have an “overwhelming responsibility to generations yet unborn”.
“Ladies and gentlemen, COP26 begins in Glasgow tomorrow. Quite literally, it is the last chance saloon,” the Prince of Wales told G20 leaders. We must now translate fine words into still finer actions. And as the enormity of the climate challenge dominates peoples’ conversations, from newsrooms to living rooms, and as the future of humanity and Nature herself are at stake, it is surely time to set aside our differences and grasp this unique opportunity to launch a substantial green recovery by putting the global economy on a confident, sustainable trajectory and, thus, save our planet.”
