Absolutely Fabulous actress Joanna Lumley says that she doesn’t watch The Crown because she knows it’s “all made up” and feels that many viewers believe it to be true. The 75-year-old actress said she believes the royals are much closer as a family than generally thought. Here’s what you need to know.
Joanna told The Jonathan Ross Show: “I think we all look from the outside and we don’t actually know what’s going on on the inside – we second guess it. And I think we all believe television shows that are made about them, like The Crown. I don’t watch it because I know it’s made up…”

She added, “These are real people and suddenly they’re made up to be different people and I don’t think it’s right. I don’t think we really know what goes on behind anybody’s closed doors. I think I have a suspicion, that that family’s much closer than we think.”
Back in March, Joanna also said that she found The Crown to be “ghastly.” Joanna, who appeared on the Chopper’s Politics podcast for The Telegraph, was asked if she had watched the series or if she would ever make a guest appearance and her answer was a flat out no.
She said, “No, I didn’t watch it. Lots of people love it and lots of people know it’s mostly made up, but lots of people don’t know it’s made up which is awful.” “I find it all ghastly,” she added.
Joanna and Prince Charles have been friends for many years. She is also an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, a youth charity that helps young people who are struggling to find jobs.
“Well, some people say ‘Oh everybody knows it’s made up’ – they don’t, they think it’s the truth,” Joanna explained. “I couldn’t watch it because I feel if you don’t disagree with something you don’t watch it and go ‘oooh I hate that.’ Just don’t watch it.”
