Prince Harry was so emotional during his last royal engagement, that he could have been fighting back tears. At least that’s what one royal expert suggests as Prince Harry couldn’t visibly contain his emotions during the Commonwealth Day Service back in March of 2020.
The service was also the last official royal engagement for Harry and his wife Meghan Markle before they officially moved to California. It was also the last time that Meghan saw Prince William and Kate Middleton. Here’s what you need to know.
Prince Harry’s Last Royal Engagement Was Too Emotional For Him To Handle
Royal expert Robert Lacey claims in his book, “Battle of Brothers,” that the initial plan for the event was to have Prince William and Meghan Markle walk inside the church along with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.
Harry and Meghan were supposed to take their seats ahead of them. However, the opposite had happened and when it was William and Kate’s turn to sit down, they completely snubbed the Sussexes behind them.
Lacey put it this way, “The only problem was that 2,000 orders of service had already been distributed round the Abbey, explaining that William and Kate would enter and process with the main royal party — and making no mention at all of Harry and Meghan. So there was the snub in black and white — set out for all to see.” One observer says that incident almost left Prince Harry in tears.
“Observers also noted that Harry’s face was ‘quite tense and unsmiling’ — and that when William sat down close to him, he barely greeted his brother. Throughout the service, Meghan megawatted away with her best TV smile but, as the ceremony progressed, Harry appeared to grow gloomier,” Lacey wrote, adding, “According to one observer, ‘his accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears.'”
So far Prince Harry himself has not made any comments about the claim, but at the same time his relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with other members of the royal family haven’t gotten better since that moment, either.
