It was supposed to be their first exciting trip and their introduction to public life in the U.S., but it turned out to be anything but that. Reports say that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to New York City turned out to be rather awkward as the police officers who were protecting them clearly outnumbered the fans who were dying to see them on the streets.
That’s because hardly any crowds showed up to greet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their three-day trip to the Big Apple. Here’s what you need to know.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Are Not As Popular In The U.S. As They Think They Are
Royal expert Charlie Rae told talkRadio that Harry and Meghan’s “glorified tourist visit” to New York City might have left the Sussexes wondering what had happened to their popularity in the States. He put it this way, “This is not a royal tour, this is a glorified tourist visit.
Three days in New York, and I think some of the media are getting overexcited. There are hardly any crowds there in any of the photos. There are more NYPD officers than anyone else. They are meeting dignitaries and staying at the lavish Carlyle hotel, but it is not a royal tour. They no longer have royal duties.”
Rae added, “I think their star is waning a little bit, particularly in the UK. In the US, I think they are still quite popular. The Americans have always wanted their own royal family.”
Many critics seem to agree as they’ve taken to their social media accounts to write, “Do they not care that nobody cares about them at all? They just don’t get it. Moreover they showed up with the most hated mayor of NYC,” along with, “Why would anyone expend the time and effort to go see the Harkles?
They have no talent, are hypocrites and would like nothing better than to find a way to scam you out of your money. They are a boil on the backside of U.S.”
Another fan said, “I don’t believe the great American public are impressed with the Sussexes. The people I met in America on several trips liked people who were hard working, self sufficient, who stood on their own 2 feet not expecting Daddy to contribute when they already had millions.”
