Feuding with your family members is never a good look, and especially if one of them is in the hospital. As many royal fans can recall, Prince Philip spent many weeks in the hospital back in February and March, and during the same time that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spoke out about the royals in their seismic interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Now there’s a new report that says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s drama might have contributed to Prince Philip’s stress while he was still hospitalized. Here’s what you need to know.
Royal author Robert Lacey says that Prince Philip was worried about his grandson and his wife even though his was facing his own health battles. Lacey claims that the Duke of Edinburgh’s longtime friend and royal biographer Gyles Brandreth confided in him this information firsthand.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Might Have Added To Prince Philip’s Stress While He Was In The Hospital
Lacey says, “What did worry him, said Brandreth, was ‘the couple’s preoccupation with their own problem.’”
Apparently, Prince Philip was referring to the Oprah Winfrey interview as “madness” and was informed of their claims against the royal family by his staff. Philip, who died in April, also believed that no good would come out of their tell-all interview with Oprah, something both fans and critics alike could agree with.
During their explosive interview with Oprah, not only did Harry and Meghan suggest that there was a royal racist in the family, but the Duke of Sussex also said that his father Prince Charles cut him off, both financially and emotionally. And while Charles initially wanted to release a rebuttal against all of Harry and Meghan’s claims, he ultimately decided against it.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also added that there were conversations over concerns about how dark their son Archie’s skin would be. While the couple didn’t want to name anyone specific, there’s speculation that the conversations were with a senior member of the royal family like Prince Charles or Harry’s brother, Prince William.
