Prince Philip’s Funeral Ratings Beat Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Oprah Interview As Over 13 Million People In The UK Tuned In To Watch!

Millions of people from across the UK tuned in to watch the British Royal Family say their final good-bye to Prince Philip. In fact, over 13 million households watched the live TV coverage of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral on Saturday afternoon. Here’s what you need to know.

Reports say more than 13 million people in the UK watched live television coverage of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral which saw a Queen in mourning, masked and sitting alone, during her first public appearance since the death of her husband of 73 years.

Over 13 Million People In The UK Tuned In To Watch Prince Philip’s Funeral

Deadline reports that 82.8% of the available television viewing population were tuning into to BBC One and ITV’s coverage of the funeral, which was just after the Duke of Edinburgh was carried into St George’s Chapel and his funeral commenced.

BBC television journalist Lizo Mzimba reported that 13.62M viewers watched the whole hour-long service across the BBC, ITV, Sky One, BBC News, and Sky News.

In comparison, the Queen Mother’s 2002 funeral was watched by 10.4 million, while that of Diana, Princess of Wales, had a record 32 million in 1997.

While the period of national mourning for the duke, who died earlier this month at the age of 99, has now ended, the two-week period of royal mourning his family are observing still remains.

Meanwhile, there’s a separate report that says BBC’s coverage of Prince Philip’s death has gotten the most complaints in British television history. According to the BBC’s complaints bulletin, some 104,010 people complained about the coverage within the first three days. Clearly, there were a lot of people who thought that the coverage was just a tad too much. The rolling news coverage of the Duke’s death meant the final of MasterChef was postponed and EastEnders was also delayed.
