A huge sinkhole in central Mexico has appeared, nearly taking out a nearby home! The sinkhole is around 200 feet in diameter and over 65 feet deep! Locals have been warned to stay away from the area and officials have been investigating what could have led to this.
CNN shared the news on their social media, along with several photos showcasing the sinkhole. In the last photo on their Instagram, you can see a line of people next to it so you can really grasp the size of the hole!
“A huge sinkhole has appeared in a farm field in central Mexico, threatening to swallow a nearby house. It’s nearly 200 feet in diameter and over 65 feet deep. The governor warned local residents to stay away from the area and officials are now investigating.”

The sinkhole measured just five meters when it was first discovered and quickly grew in just a few hours. According to the environmental secretary for the Mexico region, Beatriz Manrique,
“We think that it might be a combination of two factors: the softening of the field, the whole area was being cultivated, as well as the extraction of groundwater, which softens the subsoil.”
It’s been reported that the family that lives close to the sinkhole has been evacuated and so far no one has been injured, but the governor urges local residents to stay away from the area!
The sinkhole first appeared on Saturday and it’s filled with water that is moving around constantly.
