So, does this mean that the concert and entertainment industry is coming back? Maybe. A live audience of 4,000 people will be allowed at the Brit Awards in the O2 arena in London next month as part of a government-led research program into how crowds can safely return to mass-participation events.

The awards were held on May 11th. It was pushed back from the traditional February date because of the ongoing pandemic that has been the coronavirus. Here’s what you need to know.

Audience members will not have to wear face coverings or socially distance. They will have to have proof of a negative lateral flow test for coronavirus and will be asked, for research purposes, to take a test after the event.

Organizers are also gifting 2,500 tickets to key workers from the Greater London area to mark their work through “the difficult times” of the pandemic.

In a statement, the Brit Awards characterize the show as the “first major indoor music event to welcome back a live audience – a pivotal moment in the return of live music at scale.”

What’s more, Dua Lipa, Griff, Arlo Parks and Headie One are among the artists scheduled to perform during the ceremony. Comedian Jack Whitehall is set to host the show for the fourth year in a row.

Three-time Brit winner Lipa said: “This has been a long, tough year for everyone and I’m delighted the night will honour the key worker heroes who have cared for us so well during that time and continue to do so.”

The 2020 Brit Awards, held at The O2 on Feb. 18, 2020, was one of the last major events before the COVID-19 pandemic put large-scale public gatherings, including awards shows, on hold for more than a year. The 2021 Brit Awards, nearly 15 months later, will hopefully be a step on the road back to normalcy.
