Univision news reveals the network announced it’s 2021-2022 line-up at their upfront presentation. There’s a lot of shows coming, but let’s talk about the ones that look the most interesting. We’ll also see why we find one choice a little interesting.
Univision News: Changes
So, Univision news reveals that the network has merged with Televisa. As far as we know, they’re still working on getting the deal approved officially. But it’s not a surprising news, as the network relies heavily on Televisa content.
They’ve also jumped into the streaming thing, like all the cool kids are doing now. They’re also expanding by adding the show UniVisionarios.
It’s about honoring those in the Latino community who’ve made a huge impact, and will end with some of those featured being named the visionaries of the year for 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month. They’ll be picking people from the worlds of Music, politics, sports, and more.
Univision News: Old business, re-dos, and new shows
As for the scripted programming, Univision news reveals Vencer el Pasado will definitely be part of this season. We’ve mentioned this show before, and it’s definitely one of our can’t-miss shows for the year.
They’ll also be revisiting the Fabríco de Suenos franchise with the remake of Los Ricos También Lloran (The Rich Cry Too). The original was eventually adapted into Maria la del Barrio and tells the story of Mariana.
Her life will change when she saves the life of Don Alberto. We will see some elements we remember from Maria la del Barrio with Mariana falls for the spoiled gambler son of her benefactor.
Another show we’re thinking will be interesting is La Desalmada (The Fiend). This will star Livia Brito and José Ron in a story that reminds us a lot of what we’ve been seeing on Days of Our Lives lately.
The lead character will want revenge on a man who hurt her and mistake someone she meets as the offender. However, it turns out he’ll be related to the real perpetrator.
Univision News: Surprise Move
If there was one thing that surprised us, it’s Amor Prohibido (Forbidden Love). Univision News reveals this is a Turkish Import from the same team behind a couple of the other shows Univision has aired from that country.
It’s the story of a man who falls in love with and marries a woman who only married him to get back at her mother. Eventually, she’ll fall for someone else in his family and cause a mess.
What surprises us about this is the show is scheduled to air in Primetime on Unimás. As this is apparently one of the most successful novelas ever in it’s home country, we can’t understand why they’d put it on a channel they shuffled the new Rosario Tijeras to when ratings weren’t exactly there.
Looking at the daily ratings for the channel, they don’t come close to what Telemundo and Univision does, so it feels like a wasted opportunity. We’ll see if this works out and maybe draws more people to the sister station.
