The Spice Girls are reportedly reuniting yet again in 2022 to make a sequel to their 1997 hit film Spice World. The second movie will mark the original film’s 25th anniversary.
The band who, to the dismay of legions of fans split in 2000, have reportedly approached a renowned screenwriter to create a story for a second film. The original movie, Spice World centered on the 5 popstars zipping around London in their double-decker bus, getting up to all sorts of hi-jinx in the lead up to their concert at Royal Albert Hall. Panned by critics, the film was beloved by fans, elevating it to cult status.
Spice Girls to Reunite (Again) for Sequel to Spice World Movie
The newest Spice Girls film project is being spear-headed by group manager and ex member Geri Horner, nee Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice.
Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice ), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Mel Brown (Scary Spice) are all said to be on board. The four reunited in 2019 for a successful limited concert series in the U.K. however, it was the first reunion tour that did not include Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice). The four girls–and fans–hope that Victoria will eventually sign on for the new film.
Though there is no storyline to speak of yet, a source told The Sun, “The girls have been talking about how to mark the film’s anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel. They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward. It is still in the early stages but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big screen comeback seriously.”
The previous movie saw cameos from huge names like Sir Elton John, Elvis Costello, Bob Geldof while singer Meat Loaf portrayed the quintet’s bus-driver. We can only imagine a sequel would spawn a new slew of stars looking to connect themselves with the spicy flick.
