Live music festivals are coming back – at least in Liverpool, England, that is. There’s a new report that says the city will test a non-social distanced music festival with 5,000 people in the hopes of bringing back the music concert industry. If the test turns out to be a positive one, then music fans can certainly look forward to the return of live music in the near future.
In fact, this is a test to see what a post-pandemic future might actually look like as Covid-19 has managed to shut down basically everything since the beginning of last year. Here’s what you need to know.
Liverpool Festival To Test Non-Social Distanced Event With 5,000 People
Festival Republic is throwing this massive event in accordance with the government’s Events Research Program. According to reports, the event will take place at Sefton Park in Liverpool on May 2.
The festival is part of a series of trials looking at how event organizers can get crows back safely to mass events, which include sporting games, nightclubs, and cinemas. Many have been shut down or reduced to minimum capacity the help stop the spread of Covid-19.
For the live concert, the crowd will not have to social distance or wear face masks, but they will need proof of a negative Covid test before entry.
Ticket holders will take a lateral flow test at a local testing center before entry – waiting the 30 minutes to get their results first. Attendees will then be asked to take another test after the event.
Organizer Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic, says the aim is for the audience to “go for it as if coronavirus had never happened.”
“They’ll be singing, they’ll be dancing, they’ll be having pints of beer, they’ll be moshing, they’ll be coming over the barrier,” he said.
Other countries are also testing out these large events, including Spain. Back in March, 5,000 fans attended a concert at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi concert hall. Medical-grade face masks and same-day rapid tests were required for attendance but social distancing was not.
