The Hollywood Reporter branded Harry and Meghan as the biggest losers of 2023. According to the Hollywood Bible, the couple is seen as more like royal failures than royalty.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Scathing Critique of Harry and Meghan
Every year, the magazine rounds up the biggest winners and losers. Taylor Swift is the reigning Queen (so to speak), and Jenna Ortega, Margot Robbie, and Greta Gerwig were among the year’s champions.
This year’s losers include Elon Musk, Disney, Ezra Miller, and the “Scream” franchise. According to the magazine, the pair left their life of “public service to cash in their celebrity status in the States.”
The Hollywood Reporter goes on to say,
“After a whiny Netflix documentary, a whiny biography, and an inert podcast, the Harry and Meghan brand swelled into a sanctimonious bubble just begging to be popped, and South Park was the pin.”
South Park and Family Guy did a bang-up job of Harry and Meghan ala caricature form. An excellent example of this is during the episode of Family Guy, where Harry and Meghan are lounging by the pool, and their butler gives Harry a paycheck from Netflix.
The butler tells them, “Sir, your millions from Netflix for…..no one knows what.” Harry’s caricature responds, “Put it with the rest of them.”
The South Park episode mocked Harry and Meghan’s “Worldwide Privacy Tour.” The couple flew worldwide for a high-profile publicity tour in the show to get people to stop talking about them. Ouch. That’s some painful satire.
Meghan’s podcast, Archetypes, was canceled in June, and Spotify terminated her deal with them. Spotify executive Bill Simmons called the Sussexes “The f***ing grifters.”
The whole concept of The Duchess’s podcast wasn’t a big hit. The idea was based on the way women are stereotyped and the history behind it. It sounds interesting on paper but fails to resonate.
The Sussexes Have Failed to Succeed in Tinsel Town
The podcast only ran for 12 episodes, as it didn’t wow listeners or inspire them to tune in.
The Sussexes Netflix docuseries, “Harry and Meghan,” was popular, as it was the most watched series on the platform and earned Netflix millions. Still, their follow-up productions were lackluster at best.
Harry’s Heart of Invictus was an admirable try, and it’s a cause close to Harry’s heart. The series involves a group of veterans in training for the Invictus Games.
The series, while critically acclaimed, failed to generate much viewership. Netflix canceled Meghna’s animated series, “Pearl.”
The Duke and Duchess are also set to create Carley Fortune’s “Meet Me at the Lake.” However, there isn’t much buzz surrounding that project either.
All this negative publicity may hurt Meghan’s big Hollywood comeback and her brand. She recently signed with Wilhelmina Talent Agency to boost her image and reputation. Now, they see that there is a dark cloud above her and may be rethinking their decision.
The publication railed Harry and Meghan , and at the very end of the section dedicated to attacking the couple, it said,
“Still, all the scorn and mockery beats otherwise having to attend 200 plus official royal family engagements a year, which sounds hellish.”
