It’s not every day that someone who does not have a direct connection to a tragedy contributes to the cause, but in the case of former pro Football Star Bo Jackson, he personally went to deliver the check for $170K for all the of funeral costs of the victims of the Uvalde shooting to Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas.

He says of the deed that he didn’t want media, so he didn’t tell them that he would be coming. This was a surprise to everyone involved. Jackson’s donation was directed to the organization OneStar, a nonprofit organization that furthers volunteerism and community service in Texas.

As for why he did this, Jackson told the AP, “I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting old, it’s just not right for people to bury their kids. It’s just not right.” A sentiment that we couldn’t agree more with. He went onto say, “I know every family there probably works their butts off to be able to do what they do… the last thing they needed was to shell out thousands of dollars for something that never should have happened.” he had no connection Uvalde other than that he has driven through the town for many years on the way to a friend’s ranch.

Jackson played for four years for the Oakland Raiders. Anyone who grew up in Alabama in the late 80s and early 90s knows the slogan “Bo Knows” in this case, it seems that Bo knows grief, and knows that this was completely unnecessary and the families should not be financially punished for a tragedy that no one could have predicted.

We’re glad that people like him exist, and that they’re willing to truly help these families in their time of need. We need more people like that in the world, and less violence, and according to him, “I don’t want this to turn into anything but what it is. I was just trying to put a little sunshine in someone’s cloud. A very dark cloud.” Indeed, Bo. Stay tuned!!!
