Sony Pictures isn’t bending the knee to the CCP after it was demanded that they remove scenes from the film that featured the Statue of Liberty. The dispute occurred in late 2021 when executives were working to secure a Chinese release date. Even though the Statue of Liberty plays a major role in the film’s ending, China wanted it digitally removed.

Without the Chinese release date, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ grossed $805 million in North America, though the reason for the Chinese banning was never made clear.

However, last week China officially banned the latest entry in the MCU, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. Doctor Strange also features a lesbian character which led to the film’s ban in Saudi Arabia.

Applause to Sony for not breaking down and bowing to the CCP. Hilariously, Disney has been a terrible proponent of the country and continues to bow down to their lord at every moment. Sony Pictures, while associated with Marvel and Disney, are separate and refuse to digitally alter the Statue of Liberty.

Just recently, China censored the ending of ‘Fight Club’ with a written message on a black screen reading: “The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding.”

Censorship in China continues to run rampant and we must not allow that to come to our country. While many producers and executives just see dollar signs in the Chinese market, we must not sell ourselves out for that extra cash.

The last thing the Chinese government wants to show its people it a symbol of freedom and liberty. God forbid.

What do you think? Can you believe the film was banned simply for showing the Statue of Liberty? Let us know in the comments below.
