Elon Musk has said that he will reverse Donald Trump’s Twitter ban once he officially takes over the social media platform. He made the comment Tuesday during an interview with Financial Times.
“Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts … I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump,” Musk said.
Trump was permanently banned from Twitter and other social media sites after the events at the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021.
Elon Musk Says He’ll Reverse Twitter Ban On Donald Trump
The then-president was accused of inciting his supporters to riot while Congress was in session to certify President-elect Joe Biden after his Electoral College victory.
This decision has Trump supporters cheering at the prospect of Musk taking control of Twitter and going through everything they’ve done.
However, Trump has said that he WILL NOT return to Twitter and will instead use his own social media platform, Truth Social. Musk teased that Truth Social could use a new name, “Truth Social (terrible name) exists because Twitter censored free speech,” Musk tweeted. “Should be called Trumpet instead!”
Even if Trump does not return to Twitter, simply unbanning him is what seems to be right, and with Elon at the helm, we can expect to see several other people unbanned as well. Shockingly, in the last few weeks since the announcement that Elon was purchasing Twitter, left-leaning activists have seen their follower numbers dwindle as right-wing folks have been getting all of their reach, showing that there was a definite vetting process going on to silence right-wing voices and amplify the left.
We wonder what Elon thinks of this and what the future holds for Twitter.
