Mighty Ducks Star, Emilio Estevez has proven that not even some of the world’s biggest names are (ahem) immune to losing their job over clashes in beliefs about the Covid-19 vaccine mandates.

Deadline has reported that Estevez is not returning to the series based on the mega-hit Disney movies for season 2. Disney reportedly “passed on the actor’s option” after he resisted the series’ requirement for all actors and crew on set to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

Also an executive producer for the Disney + series, Estevez allegedly refused to assure the big bosses that he would comply with the mandate so the cut-throat studio axed their biggest star.

So, what is going to happen to Coach Bombay, last seen in the Season 1 finale mentoring the Don’t Bothers? No one can say just yet, but scriptwriters are apparently hard at work, re-writing the second season without Coach Bombay. It will be a busy Christmas break for writers as production is expected to begin early in 2022.

Series creator Steve Brill, the writer for all three Mighty Ducks films in which Estevez starred, is hoping to draw some other big names to the Game Changers season 2, specifically Charlie Conway and Russ Tyler, portrayed in the films by Dawson’s Creek alum Joshua Jackson’s and SNL’s Kenan Thompson (respectively). Brill reports he has already been in talks with both actors about coming back for cameos as both are too busy to film a full season.

His tactics may have to change now that Estevez is no longer on the project.

Of course, Emilio is not the only actor to sacrifice work for his beliefs. Actor and rapper, Ice Cube recently said “Oh, hell no” when told he must take Covid-19 jab in order to star in the film he was set to work on, aptly titled Oh Hell No. He reportedly walked away from a $9 million pay day for his opposition to the vaccine mandate.
