Phew. At least they got this out of the way. Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson and Disney have settled their “Black Widow” lawsuit.

As many fans can recall, Johansson filed a lawsuit Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Disney, alleging her contract was breached when the media giant released the film on its Disney+ streaming service at the same time as its theatrical debut. Johansson claims she had been guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release of the film and much of her salary was tied to its box-office performance. Here’s what you need to know.

Johansson’s lawsuit cited a response from Marvel’s chief counsel, which stated “Black Widow” would be released like other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meaning, it would have a theatrical run before going to the home video market.

Disney opted for a hybrid release in July when cinemas in major markets remained closed due to the pandemic and in areas where theatres had reopened some fans were reluctant to return. Thankfully, she and Disney have now settled their breach of contract lawsuit but the terms of the deal were not disclosed to the public.

“I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” stated Johansson. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.”

Disney Studios chairman Alan Bergman added: “I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror.”
As many fans can recall, Johansson entered the MCU in 2012, when she played Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2.
