It’s a three-headed animal, sort of an unstoppable beast,” Stewart told ET’s Lauren Zima of the late Princess of Wales’ relationship with sons Prince William and Prince Harry. “…You don’t want to mess with moms, you just don’t do that. I think [Diana] feels so embodied and so unconditionally herself when when she is with her kids. In all of the research, that I was like, ‘Man, that is what we are protecting here.'”
Even though Kristen is not a mother herself – yet – she says that she does relate to Diana on other levels.
“I mean, I’m a kid of a parent,” she said. “I do know what it feels like, that exchange. I can’t say with certainty that I know what it feels like to be a mother. But I have, you know, I have all the natural feelings. I am human.”
The film cover the life-changing weekend in the early 1990s when Princess Diana decided that her marriage was over between her and Prince Charles. This was during their Christmas holiday at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England.
Having had enough of all the scandals and royal controversies, Princess Diana announced to Charles then that she wanted to step back from life as a member of the British royal family.
Yet the film has already come under fire for its “gratuitous” portrayal of one of the most difficult times in Diana’s life. Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun, “It is really cruel to portray her like this. It is totally unnecessary. William and Harry will be very angry and hurt about this. They will find it horrible that their mother is being portrayed in such a huge movie this way.”
