Maurice Benard’s State of Mind is known for having chats about hard subjects. The guests open up about mental health challenges and more each week.
This time, Benard had a guest who had some more practical experience with helping people who are struggling. He also got a little more than he planned on with this guest, and we loved it. Let’s take a look at what happened.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind welcomes…
The show is known for attracting people from the soap world. This week, Maurice Benard’s State of Mind welcomed a Young and the Restless cast member. Christian LeBlanc, who plays Michael Baldwin on the show, sat down with the actor to discuss some really personal topics.
We’ve only seen a bit of Y&R, so we don’t know his character well. However, we do remember he was part of our favorite soap moment ever—“Betrayal”. And if you can guess what that means just by seeing that word, our hats off to you. It was truly comic genius. But let’s get into the chat.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind brings the laughs
Even though the chat tackled some pretty heavy moments (and got pretty philosophical), there was some lightheartedness as well. The rapport between the two was instant and felt natural, and LeBlanc started things off the right way.
When Benard was doing the intro and talked about clicking the subscribe button, LeBlanc joked about watching episodes of the show and trying to hit that button on the screen. He also joked at how impressive Benard’s work with the subscribe button is to those watching at home.
He also made us laugh later on in the episode with an off-hand comment, but we’ll get to that in a moment. First, let’s talk some of the big reveals from the episode. We also got a laugh out of the two when Benard said he almost didn’t have LeBlanc on because he’s won more Emmys.
LeBlanc then joked back how he holds his wins over a certain cast member’s head. Check out the episode to find out who.
One, we learned his father was one of the first Green Berets, something that surprised and impressed Benard. He also talked about his family background, as he’s part of a large family. But we also got a surprise when we learned the totally different path LeBlanc was on prior to acting.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind goes deep
During Maurice Benard’s State of Mind, LeBlanc talked about his work with an organization that helps AIDS patients, as well as the work he’s done with families struggling with addiction.
This path was apparently something he’d gravitated to at a young age. But when he found acting, he learned how to use the moments he experienced to deliver a better performance. He then got a bit philosophical about his craft, and we loved hearing his take on what it means to be in acting.
Of course, he also spoke about the struggles in his life, including a relative’s battle with AIDS, the loss of his mother, and the moment that gave him huge insight into himself as a person.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind changes it up
We’ve talked about how the show has given fans a little something different. Like when a guest sang, and another one had a separate short segment where they were the interviewer.
This time, Benard had very little to do with the change. LeBlanc subtly turned the tables multiple times throughout the episode, getting Benard to open up as well. Then, he gave us a laugh when he just outright took over near the end and pointed out he’d been doing that the whole time.
Check out the end, especially, because LeBlanc asks a question that left Benard at a loss for a minute. Overall, another great watch.
And we loved also how LeBlanc opened up about his struggles to show any affection in public with his husband. This is definitely an episode we’re sure will make some people feel a little less alone.
