After an insider leaked images from a Coca-Cola video training that was teaching people to “be less white”, LinkedIn has taken down the course from Robin DiAngelo.
LinkedIn vice president, Nicole Leverich told Newsweek,
“The Confronting Racism course featuring Robin DiAngelo is no longer available in our course library, at the request of the 3rd party content provider we licensed this content from,” she continued, “We provide a wide variety of learning content, including more than 270 courses on the topics of diversity, inclusion and belonging,” Leverich said. “We will continue to add new courses to help people learn the skills they need to be more successful in their career, including the foundational skills we all need to be effective allies and help build a more equitable future.”
Amid Coca-Cola Blacklash, LinkedIn Removes Diversity Lesson Saying To ‘Be Less White’
Since the images leaked, Coca-Cola has been criticized on social media. Karlyn Borysenko, who is a YouTube commentator received the tip from a whistleblower at Coca-Cola who said employees were “required” to take the online course.
Coca-Cola stood by their statement that it was not required and there was a misunderstanding going around. They told Newsweek that the course is, “not part of the company’s learning curriculum.” Coca-Cola also sent a follow-up saying,
“The video in question was accessible on a third-party platform and was not part of the company’s curriculum, so it was not required. Our overall diversity, equity and inclusion training is required and received input from employees reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, views and expertise.”
This has undoubtedly been a big blow to Coca-Cola, with people all over social media saying they would not drink their product any longer. Since they’ve taken down the course and issued an “apology”, I wonder if this will change people’s stances. I don’t think so, though.
What do you think? Will you drink Coke products or will you move on from their product after this situation? Let us know in the comments below.
