For most of the internet, it almost seems impossible to reboot ‘Sex and the City’ without the sex. And by that, we mean Kim Cattrall. Yet, Candace Bushnell, who wrote the 1994 novel in which the show is based, says that the show will work perfectly fine without the actress, who was both known as her loveable louche character, Samantha. Here’s what you need to know.
“You know what, I think it’s fine. Kim is a grown woman. She is 64 and she’s made a decision that I’m sure she has 10 very good reasons for and I respect her for that,” Candace told Page Six, adding, “I also think it will be interesting. But I also know there’s a lot of interesting characters like [Cynthia Nixon’s] Miranda. We are all Mirandas. Miranda is an interesting character — but I don’t know what they’re gonna do.”

“Kim should be happy — and I think she is happy. I think that her character Samantha is always going to be an inspiration to them,” she added. “So somehow, I imagine she’ll be there in spirit and as an inspiration that gives them a chance of exploring sexuality with different characters [without Samantha hogging the libidinous spotlight].
Just last week, SJP officially announced that the reboot, called “And Just Like That…,” would premiere on HBO Max. She has since opened up about moving forward with the revival without Kim Cattrall, saying she’ll miss her and “We loved her so.”
Meanwhile, Kim “liked” a tweet from a fan commending the actress for putting her own needs first following the news that she would not be joining her former castmates for the “Sex and the City” reboot.
The tweet said, “I absolutely love ‘Sex and the City’ and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is [a] great example of putting yourself first. Well done @KimCattrall.”
