HBO Max has confirmed that Sex and the City will be officially revived on their platform (sister to the HBO network, the original show ran on).

The 10-episode reboot from original executive producer Michael Patrick King (who also directed some episodes da wrote the two SATC movies) will feature Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon all reprising their iconic, fashionable roles.

Sex and the City fans rejoice!

The announcement made on social media early Sunday evening quickly became a trending topic, but fans of Sex and the City shouldn’t get too excited yet. The new series called And Just Like That… will only begin production in late spring and not even a hint of a premier date has been mentioned.

Sex and the City Reboot Confirmed!

And Just Like That…will follow the ladies; Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate life, love and friendship in their 50s. In a 2018 interview, Parker told The Hollywood Reporter how she imagined her character would be “energized” by the flourishing #MeToo movement. “It’s hard to imagine her not wanting to write about it, not wanting to talk about it and not having an opinion. It would be rich territory for her to explore.”

Sex and the City, based on the essays from Candice Bushnell, ran on HBO for six seasons and followed the lives and relationships of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York and Samantha Jones. Noticeably ,this new incarnation is only picking back up with Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte.

A deep rift between Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) and Kim Cattrall (Samantha) has been widely reported and Cattrall has made her desire to put the franchise, her co-stars and the character of Samantha behind her clearly known

So, like Carrie often did, fans have to wonder…what has happened to Samantha?

It’s unknown if the series will include the two movies in it’s canon or pick up from the last episode of the series, where Big (Chris Noth) made his way to Paris to confess his love to Carrie. It was in the last season of the series that Samantha battled and ultimately beat cancer.

Could it have come back for her? Is Samantha still alive? If so, and she is simply elsewhere, it does leave space for a future recast. The show sure could use some diversity. How about a black, Hispanic or Asian Samantha? I could definitely be down for that.

While speculation is sure to run rampant between now and the premier, no one will really know until we get the chance to hang with our favorite NY ladies again, Until then, here is Kristin Davis’ (Charlotte York’s)  official Twitter announcement of the show’s highly anticipated come back.
