British Royal Family News says that while previous reports indicated that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 royal wedding supposedly gave the UK a billion dollar economic boost, one royal expert claims that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding ended up becoming a net loss for UK taxpayers instead. Here’s what you need to know.
The Republic CEO Graham Smith told Express.co.uk that there is no evidence suggesting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding provided an economic boost for the UK. While it certainly was a luxurious and lavish wedding, with hundreds of A-list stars in attendance, it actually cost more money than it generated.

However, in documents connected to her court battle with the Mail on Sunday, Meghan claimed that her wedding to Prince Harry was actually one of the economic highlights for the UK that year.
Smith disagrees by saying, “Meghan Markle is falling for the same spin that the royal household put out. There is no evidence at all that the monarchy ever bring money in from tourism. The idea that her wedding brought in £1billion is pure fiction. There just isn’t any evidence to support that whatsoever.”
He added, “It was a net loss for the British taxpayers and to try and justify spending public money on her wedding by making these rather weird claims is just another sign of their entitlement.”
As many fans can recall, millions of people from all over the world tuned to watch a misty-eyed Prince Harry marry the love of his life. The ceremony and reception took place at Windsor Castle and was paid for by the future King of England, Prince Charles. However, less than two years later Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step down from their senior roles as working members of the royal family and have since packed their bags and moved to Los Angeles to start a new life for themselves.
