Sporting Documentaries finds that the sporting calendar has been effectively wiped due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, which means sports fans will need to find a new way to feed their craving for sports content. One of the ways in which that can be done is by watching a quality documentary series on one of the available streaming sites.
There is something for everyone; no matter whether you’re a soccer fan, a basketball fan or a wrestling fanatic. Here, you will find the documentaries that you need to watch while you can’t leave the house.
Sporting Documentaries: Icarus
One of the most contentious documentaries that you can expect to find on the streaming sites is away winning film ‘Icarus’ by Bryan Fogel. The documentary follows the huge story that broke a number of years ago centring on the despicable Russian doping scandal.
This is one of the very best to have been made, and delves deep into the dodgy dealings that the Russian’s went to hide the truth from coming out. It is a must-watch for anybody fascinated by drugs testing, and for anyone already missing the prospect of no Olympic Games this year.
Sporting Documentaries: Tennis: Andy Murray: Resurfacing
The tennis world was rocked at the beginning of 2019 when it was revealed that tennis ace Andy Murray was going to be forced to retire after a continuous back problem. However, this Amazon Prime documentary follows him as he has career-saving surgery and then through rehab. Murray was eventually to get back on the court in the same calendar year as he won the doubles titles at Queens, and this documentary is an excellent tail of how anybody can overcome their problems.#
Sporting Documentaries: Boxing: Tyson
There aren’t many more famous sports start on the planet than Mike Tyson. Iron Mike has been a pulverising figure throughout his career, and this Amazon Prime documentary tells his story; in his own words. Boxing fans should consider this a must-watch as they can delve deep into the troubles that he suffered throughout his career, and he talks at length around THAT incident with Evander Holyfield.
Sporting Documentaries: Soccer: Sunderland Till I Die
There are a lot of good soccer documentaries out there, but this is a personal favourite. The Manchester City: All Or Nothing series gets a special mention, but this Netflix title is better as it represents what life is like at a football club when things are going badly.
Filmmakers admitted that the first season as supposed to be the story of how the club managed to get back into the Premier League; but, it’s fair to see they didn’t achieve that goal. The second season has just hit Netflix, and it makes for compelling viewing.
