General Hospital spoilers reveal that soap opera characters are not always known for being the brightest people. Today’s episode, and episodes since the Halloween return of Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) prove that. But it’s not an affliction unique to soaps. Their Telenovela counterparts suffer from the same lack of foresight. This leads to some very frustrating moments for fans. So, what went down? Here’s what you need to know.
General Hospital spoilers: Latest risk
Nikolas has made a few questionable decisions since his return to Port Charles. But his latest might prove to be the costliest. Nikolas snuck into the Cassadine estate, and ultimately was caught by Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez). He showed some fast thinking when he pretended to be a bodyguard hired by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart). He even got Charlotte to keep quiet about his presence by saying he had been ordered to stay out of sight. There’s one issue with his plan.
In the Tuesday, November 26th episode, Charlotte is left alone a minute to scroll through Lulu Spencer’s (Emme Rylan) phone. While doing so, she sees a picture of the bodyguard she’s supposed to keep quiet about. He’s about two seconds from exposure, depending on what Charlotte decides to do. There’s every chance she’ll wonder about the picture and learn that’s her uncle. Bye, bye fake death.
General Hospital spoilers: Brain damage?
In other news, we assume Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) must have suffered some brain damage courtesy of Kendra Lennon’s (Michelle Argyris) poison. That’s the only way we can explain what happened. Also on Tuesday, she was told by Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) he believes she is behind Alexis’ sudden illness. Alexis is doubtful, as she can’t imagine a motive. However, Neil is convinced.
Later on, she gets a visitor: Kendra. While the smart move would be to plan innocent and act like nothing is wrong, Alexis does the opposite. She actually tells Kendra that she was poisoned. Not only that, she makes it clear the cops know, too. This was a weird choice. If Kendra is the one, Alexis just warned her that her game is coming to an end. That has the potential to make Kendra either disappear, or make her more desperate than ever to complete her job. But wait. There’s more…

General Hospital spoilers: Not the only ones
The telenovela world is stricken with this affliction as well. In the Monday, November 25th episode, Nelly Bayona (Lina Nieto) made a similar mistake. Our villain, Yésica “La Diabla” Beltrán (Kimberly Reyes) is a drug dealer with a rumored pact with the devil. In this final season of El Final del Paraíso (End of Paradise), she’s positioned herself into some very high places. This is thanks to a stolen face and name. No, really. She had someone kidnapped to be used as a face donor.
This led her to working with the DEA for a short time, as well as now being married to the president, Alfonso Berrio (Leonardo Acosta). The thing is, Berrio and a trusted associate were on to her. She could’ve had her days numbers. Except Nelly opened her big mouth.
In one of the most frustrating scenes yet, a character who was made well-aware of the chance Diabla is masquerading as first Lady Valeria Montes revealed Berrio was working with the FBI to uncover “the perfect lie”. To Diabla. There is not enough aspirin for the migraine this induces.

While sometimes this is a convenient way to complicate things, the device of stupid is frustrating to viewers. This is something people need to keep in mind when figuring out their next plot twist. Each stupid mistake compromises the character and the story’s believability. Yes, we all make questionable moves at time. No one is a machine, but using things like this sparingly keeps things from getting into the beyond bad category.
