‘Days Of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers is saying that, as we all know, the actor who originated the role of Stefano Dimera (Joseph Mascolo) is unfortunately no longer with us. But that doesn’t look to be the case in Salem. Stefano’s physical body may have died, but this is the Phoenix we’re talking about. According to the November 14th episode of DOOL, he’s alive and kickin’! And in the body of another man. A younger man. I know this theory has been kicked around before, but hear me out. What if Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay), resident doctor and mad scientist extraordinaire took Stefan DiMera’s (Brandon Barash) body and transplanted the ‘essence’ of Stefano into Stefan?

Wrong. He doesn’t have his own heart. I’m pretty sure that Dr. Wilhelm Rolf could swing a random, black market heart from just about anybody. Or in the case of Stefan, as long as they were genetically compatible (and considering they’re father and son its entirely possible), maybe he transplanted the very heart of Stefano DiMera himself into the body of his son. That, combined with his essence, would pretty much get you Stefano DiMera in the flesh and running around all over again.

Now, if you do your research you’ll probably scoff and tell me that this is not possible because a human heart can only survive on ice for 6 hours outside the body. But let us not discount the talent of Dr. Wilhelm Rolf. He could have very well, at the time of death of Stefano Dimera, harvested his heart and cryogenically frozen it for just such an occasion. Currently, there is no way to rewarm the organs, however this is Dr.Rolf, if he can put the essence of a person on a microchip and revive them hydra-style, then he could certainly figure out a way to unthaw Stefano DiMera’s old ticker from the deep freeze!

Let’s not forget that Stefan’s full name is Stefan O. Dimera, so techanically he already is. But that aside, if he has Stefano’s heart then there is a little something called ‘cellular memory’ that sometimes crops up with organ donation patients. Like, if you didn’t like a certain food, say french fries, and you got a lung transplanted from someone who really liked McDonald’s fries, then there’s a chance that periodically you could have some cravings that could only be satisfied by the golden arches. What if the genetic penchant for evil works the same way? Stefan DiMera seemed to be a pretty good guy, but Stefano? Was not. With the cellular memory of Stefano inside of Stefan, he could be quite a force to be reckoned with.

If that theory doesn’t work for you then there’s always the theory that Dr. Rolf got a heart through far more conventional means of some random person who died and implanted it into Stefan’s lifeless body. Then he repaired whatever damage Stefan had sustained from the bullet Lani put in his neck and as the piece de resistance he implanted him with the microchipped ‘essence’ of Stefano DiMera, and presto-change-o, insta-Stefano! After all, he didn’t need any of Princess Gina’s DNA, much less her heart, to bring her back on the scene, just a microchip and a few activation words.

This could have been in the works all along. I could see Stefano, in his infinite wisdom, going over some of these details with Dr. Rolf, in the event of his death, maybe he wanted the child that shared his name (or closest to his name) taking over for him in the realm of evil. That way there would arguably always be a Stefano around, thought the emphasis on the last syllable might change, it would still be Stefano that would be wreaking havoc and therefore, rising from the ashes like a Phoenix. It’ll be interesting to see who actually ends up as ol’ “Steffie”, stay tuned!!!
