Nick Newman has officially crossed into dangerous territory on The Young and the Restless, and the May 13 episode made that impossible to ignore. What started as a mission to protect his family from Matt Clark is now turning into something much darker — and honestly, even the people closest to Nick can see it.
By the end of Wednesday’s episode, Nick was no longer talking about stopping Matt. He was openly planning to kill him.
Not arrest him. Not hand him over to the police. Kill him.
And the scariest part? Nick already thinks he’s figured out how to get away with it.
Nick Is No Longer Thinking Rationally

The biggest red flag in Wednesday’s Y&R episode was how calm Nick sounded while explaining his plan. Sitting in Sharon’s living room, he casually told Sharon and Noah that once Matt is found, he plans to confront him personally with Detective Burrow nearby so he can claim self-defense after Matt is dead.

Even Adam — who literally called himself “morally flexible” earlier in the episode — looked horrified by what Nick was suggesting. Adam flat-out warned his brother that this could end with a life sentence if things go sideways, but Nick barely cared. He already seems emotionally checked out from the consequences.
Nick is convinced he’s doing the right thing, but he’s acting more reckless by the minute.
The Drugs Are Clearly Making Things Worse
The Young and the Restless did not exactly hide what is happening with Nick during Wednesday’s episode. Adam immediately noticed something was off after Nick’s emotional swings and erratic behavior. When he asked point-blank if Nick was using again, Nick dodged the question instead of giving a straight answer.

Nick blamed everything on detoxing and being stressed, but nobody around him seemed convinced — especially Adam. Later, Adam even admitted to Victor that he believes Nick may still be using.
Nick is sweating, spiraling emotionally, obsessing over revenge, and now talking about premeditated murder like it’s a reasonable solution. Sharon immediately recognized that something deeper is going on and begged him to focus on treatment instead of hunting Matt down himself.
But Nick is beyond listening right now.
Sharon Knows This Is Heading Somewhere Bad

Sharon spent almost the entire episode trying to stop the Newman men from turning this into a war. First, she pushed back when Victor and Noah started talking about going after Matt “hard and fast.” Then she completely panicked once Nick revealed his actual plan.
And she should be panicking.
Nick basically admitted that he intends to engineer a situation where Matt strikes first so he can kill him without legal consequences. Sharon immediately called it what it was: premeditated murder.
That scene mattered because Sharon knows Nick better than almost anyone. She could tell this was not simply anger talking anymore. Nick looks consumed by this obsession with Matt, and it feels like he’s losing control a little more every episode.
Victor and Adam Are Already Trying to Stop Him
One of the most interesting parts of Wednesday’s Y&R was realizing that even Victor thinks Nick has gone too far.
After Nick stormed out of the ranch, Adam filled Victor in on everything, including Nick’s plan to personally eliminate Matt. Victor’s reaction was immediate. He made it clear he would never allow Nick to go through with something like this.
The problem is Nick has reached the point where he probably won’t listen to anyone — not Sharon, not Adam, and maybe not even Victor.
Matt Clark Is Becoming More Dangerous By the Day
Meanwhile, Matt himself continues drifting deeper into Genoa City while seemingly piecing together fragments of his past. His scenes with Phyllis at Crimson Lights added another layer of danger because he’s starting to recognize that people fear him even if he doesn’t fully understand why.
And now Phyllis knows exactly who he is.
That reveal could become a huge turning point because Phyllis rarely stays out of chaos for long. The second Matt introduced himself as “Matt Clark,” her entire expression changed. She immediately realized this wasn’t just some mysterious stranger with memory problems anymore.
At the same time, Matt’s conversations about redemption, identity, and whether people can truly change almost make the situation feel more complicated. If his amnesia is real, Nick may end up targeting someone who genuinely does not remember the monster he used to be.
That possibility could make this entire revenge plan explode in Nick’s face.
Y&R Spoilers Hint Nick Could Lose Everything

Right now, Nick is operating entirely on rage and paranoia. The problem is that every person around him can see he’s unraveling except him.
Adam thinks he’s unstable. Sharon thinks he needs treatment. Victor wants him pulled out of the situation completely. Even Noah looked uneasy once Nick fully explained what he intended to do.
That usually means one thing in Genoa City: disaster is coming.
Because if Nick keeps spiraling like this, Matt Clark may not end up destroying the Newman family after all. Nick could destroy himself first.
