CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R), CBS ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ (B&B), ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) and NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) Spoilers will all operate a little bit differently behind the scenes once filming begins once again. As many international soaps start-up production again, it looks like networks from our favorite daytime television soaps are already looking to make significant changes to the way the industry is going to proceed forward with new storylines, ‘touchless’ drama and a whole lot of emotion. In other words, instead of seeing Brooke Logan and Rena Sofer fighting, there will be a whole lot more crying from Hope Logan. Here’s what you need to know.
According to a New York Times profile, the soap world is already looking to their international counterparts, like Neighbours in Australia and Eastenders in the UK, to see how they will be making new changes in order to adhere to social distancing and safety guidelines. Actors will be expected to stand several feet apart and won’t be able to kiss, tough, fight, or claw each other in the future. If that weren’t enough, Wyatt Spencer and Sally Spectra also won’t be able to spend endless afternoons cuddling next to each other in bed at his luxury beach house.

Y&R, B&B, GH, And DOOL Update: Expect A Whole Lot More Emotion And Touchless Drama With New Soap Format
What’s more, the makeup department will be scaled back and only three actors will be permitted to cross between designated zones at any time. The NYT report also says, “Cameras are positioned to make the cast appear as if they were standing or sitting closer to one another. There are no extras. And although soap operas are known the world over for passionate embraces and violent clashes born of unbridled emotion, on the new ‘Neighbours’ there will be no touching and no physical intimacy.”
So far the executive producers from the three major network soaps have not made any comments as to when they plan on rolling the cameras again, but seeing how their international counterparts are looking to move forward in the coming weeks, there’s a good chance that our favorite American daytime television shows will follow suit.
