So, Colleen Ballinger, AKA Miranda Sings, recently got into a heaping helping of trouble. Now, back when the world was a little less woke (say, 5 or so years ago) she was friends with a young fan who was 13 at the time, underage. It looks like from the things that he has shared that during this time, he and Colleen got really, really close. Close enough so that she was sharing details of her marital problems and subsequent divorce from then husband Josh Evans. Back in the day they were the premiere youtube couple, had the big fairytale wedding and everything, but sadly it was not to be. Things didn’t work out, both Colleen and Josh made absolutely heartbreaking videos after filing for divorce and then went their separate ways.
But why was Colleen confiding in a 13 year old? Online, you might argued that the lines of age are often blurred. Sometimes when we start talking to a person online we don’t often know their age to start off with and you just continue with the conversation as you would a normal adult, not giving a second thought to the person behind the computer screen who might be years, even decades younger than you. I’m not sure when Colleen found out about this fan’s age, but it seems that things were pretty open from the beginning.

Then there’s the part of this scandal that gets kind of cringeworthy. So apparently it was a thing in the Miranda Sings fandom back in the day for Miranda to send fans an article of clothing that belonged to Miranda, which, okay, is fine when it’s say a headband or a pair of shoes or even a shirt or something to that effect, but Colleen made a really fatal mistake when she sent this kid underwear, I’m not kidding, she sent this then 13 year-old boy underwear.

If he had gotten a pair of shoes, a sock, a handkerchief, some sort of tangible (but non-intimate) item then this would probably not even be news. In fact this would probably just be a funny anecdotal thing that he could have shared with his friends for the next decade and a half to come, but Colleen sent him underwear. Why? I mean you have to wonder just what sort of thought process went into that. I mean, granted she probably didn’t think very much of it at all and just thought it would be funny, Miranda Sings sending a 13 year old underwear like she’s Madonna or something but in the wake of cancel culture, hindsight is 20/20.
That being said, according to all accounts, the underwear the Colleen sent still had the tags on them and were not used in any way, and according to fellow youtuber and personal friend of Colleen’s, Kory DeSoto, the young boy had begged for them for months. So while this was clearly a questionable choice of items to send to a minor, it doesn’t seem like Colleen actually meant any harm towards the kid in any way. It honestly seems like she just sent the items as a joke, but perhaps it was a joke that was taken a little bit too far. So, what else will, pardon the pun, unfold? Stay tuned!!!
