Youtuber Charli D’Amelio is using her platform for good. As the top TikTok creator, over the weekend she came out on her TikTok condemning George Floyd’s death. In the video, she questioned, “Why is it that when it comes to the color of a person’s skin, they’re treated differently? A man was killed. His life was ended. ‘Don’t kill me’, George Floyd says as his last words. His life should not be over and his name needs to be heard.” A sentiment in which I think we can all agree with. She went on to detail how that George Floyd was a Father, he has children that will know that their Father’s last moments were not surrounded by his loving family, but lying on the cold ground with an offer standing on his neck as he handcuffed him while he begged him not to kill him.
She makes an excellent point saying that human beings of all colors need to speak up at a time like this. She almost got in trouble though by posting the fist logo from the black lives matter as her profile picture, but quickly changed it after being educated that that symbol is for people of color only. She then changed it to a logo that was only text that said “Black Lives Matter” which is a much more productive way of showing support rather than appropriation. Good on her for catching that early. We stan her in a time like this for using her gigantic platform to bring awareness to this dire situation.
Youtuber Charli DiAmelio comes out as an ally to the BLM movement.
She is doing something productive, what should be done. She is using her voice in a non-violent manner to raise awareness that this kind of action is not, and will never be okay. She’s letting her audience know that she does not stand with this violent act and they should not either, and that they should use her peaceful, non-violent example as a way to raise awareness for the movement in a way that is productive not destructive.
She’s very wise for someone who’s just a teenager. She said all this to the tune of 45 million views. I think she definitely deserves top creator spot. Charli leads by example, kudos to her!
