The United States Coast Guard has been looking for a missing woman who apparently fell off a Carnival Cruise ship just off the coast of Mexico. The incident happened on Saturday morning and Petty Officer First Class Adam Stanton said that the woman, who is in her 20s, went overboard that morning.

The Search Is On – Not Any More

On Twitter, the USCG Southern California made an announcement that members of the crew were searching for her. They were working on the sector of San Diego with a Jayhawk helicopter and that they were also working with the Mexican Navy to try and find this young woman. As of December 15, the search has been called off.

Woman Falls Off Carnival Cruise Ship

It is believed that this woman fell overboard near Ensenada, Mexico. On Sunday, the Coast Guard announced on Twitter that they were “standing down pending additional information after first light searches” that were conducted off the coast of Ensenada, Mexico. There were many negative results of finding the woman in the water that day and it isn’t clear what will happen next in the search.

Carnival Cruise Lines knew that they had to make a statement as well. The ship was being held for a limited time to make sure that the crew would take part in the search for this woman. After taking part in some searches, they were given the green light to continue on the cruise to Mexico. The cruise line wrote, “Our thoughts are with the guest and her family, and our Care Team is providing support.”

There was one passenger who decided to share his side of the story with the press. His name is Josh Zufelt and he said that everyone on the ship was informed of what happened and what was going on. He said that the ship pretty much stopped around 3:30 a.m.and a lifeboat had been dropped into the ocean.

Another passenger, Daniel Miranda, remembers that he woke up around 3 a.m. to hear a very loud announcement warning the entire ship that someone had gone overboard. He added that there were specific areas of the ship that had been “cornered off for their search.”

Miranda added, “They had crew literally around the deck to look all the way around the ship to be able to see if somebody was out in the water. They had lights out in the water trying to flash out there, but again it’s pretty dark.”

Our thoughts are with the family of the missing woman and hope they get some closure soon.
