Will Smith may be listening to his publicists feeling contrite this morning after grossly over-reacting to an off-color joke about his wife at the 94th Academy Awards and very publicly assaulting comedian, Chris Rock. However, this is not the first time the actor has resorted to fisticuffs.
Back in 2012, Smith was promoting Men in Black 3 in Moscow when a Ukrainian prankster/reporter Vitalii Sediuk attempted to land a kiss on the star. Smith reacted by slapping the reporter who later apologized for trying to kiss Smith but continued to repeat the stunt on other celebs. Brad Pitt even has a restraining order against the attention seeker.

That one might be forgivable, but it’s not the assault people are pointing to when proving Smith has a problem with keeping his hands to himself.
It’s hard to find much coverage on it, but it has been alleged that Smith once had a physical altercation with Collateral Beauty co-star, Edward Norton. There has been no motive written about, but the dust-up is said to have occurred in the bathrooms…at the Oscars!!!!
Norton and Smith appeared together in the film in 2016. According to Norton when he appeared on Good Morning America, he and Smith had an “easy rhythm” during filming had a lot in common, including a similar sense of humor.
Smith allegedly punching Norton might have happened after the Fight Club actor was singing Smiths’ praises, or Norton might just be that good an actor- holding back his real feelings to promote his film (which did pretty badly despite co-starring Dame Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, and Kiera Knightley).
Fast forward again to 2022 and Smith doesn’t seem to have grown up or learned how to temper his temper. Though Smith apologized to the Academy during his Best Actor acceptance speech, and later to Chris Rock and the world at large on Twitter, many Oscars viewers are calling on an investigation and some consequences for a man that many, many people look up to.
