Katy Perry’s presence at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games is controversial. The pop star performed her signature hits like “Firework” and “Roar” to please the crowd despite the desperate plea of the family of disabled veteran Carl Wescott.
Wescott’s Family Sent Harry A Letter In December 2024
The ceremony also featured performances by Chris Martin of Coldplay and Nelly Furtado. Eighty-four-year-old Wescott has been in a feud with Perry over her Montecito mansion. He has asked the Duke of Sussex to exclude Perry from the event.
In December 2024, Wescott’s family sent a letter to Prince Harry after it was announced that Perry would be the headline act for the Invictus Games.
The vet is bedridden with Huntington’s disease and is in no condition to defend himself. Wescott agreed to sell his house to Perry in 2020, but days later, he wanted to cancel the deal, claiming his judgment was impaired due to the painkillers he had been taking.
Harry has been dragged into the row since he founded the Invictus Games. Unfortunately, Harry is a bit biased since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, are close to Perry and her boyfriend, Orlando Bloom.
Wescott is the former owner of Perry’s mansion and has been caught up in a lawsuit with Perry for the past four years after she recently countersued him for six million dollars in damages. Still, the Wescott family isn’t having it.
In the private letter Prescott sent Harry, he shared his concerns about the singer performing at the Invictus Games.
Carl has been sick and confined to his bed for over a year due to his disease. His family has been pursuing Wescott’s legal matters since he has been deemed “mentally incapacitated” since the start of the lawsuit.
The Legal Dispute Has Hurt Wescott And His Family
His son wrote the letter on his behalf. It read,
“Our father, who served honorably in the 101st Airborne Division, was one of the soldiers deployed by President Eisenhower to uphold civil rights during the Little Rock Nine crisis.”
He continued,
“His lifetime of entrepreneurship, for which he was inducted into the Horatio Alger Society for Disgruntled Americans, embodies the resilience and values celebrated by the Invictus Games.”
It goes on to explain Wescott’s condition, his struggle, and the pain that had been inflicted on him and his family due to Perry.
He claimed that Katy Perry’s participation in the opening ceremony conflicted with the event’s mission to honor and support veterans.
Apparently, Perry has been relentless in court with this poor older man, and the family is very stressed due to their legal troubles.
He said that Katy Perry’s legal pursuit of his father “undermines the values the Games stands for.” He asked the Duke of Sussex to reconsider his decision to include Perry in the ceremony.
Perry Won Control Of Wescott’s Mansion, The Home He Planned To Die In
He added that his family admires the work Harry is doing with the Invictus Games. He is committed to the cause and appreciates that he is a veteran himself.
Wescott wanted Harry to be made aware of Perry’s lack of compassion for the disabled vet. He hopes Harry wants to align himself with those who respect the veterans and the Games.
The letter concludes by saying that Perry doesn’t care about disabled veterans or the people who attend the Invictus Games.
This fact was proven when Perry won control over Wescott’s home and now owns the property. She’s renovating and claims Wescott “owes” her six million in damages and lost income.
It was even the house the disabled veteran wanted to die in, but he was forced to vacate his home. This entitled pop princess claimed that the bedridden eighty-four-year-old man is responsible for significant funds and repairs and lost rental income he “owes” her.
Perry must provide proof at an upcoming trial. Wescott’s family said this “exhausting legal dispute has stained the treasured patriarch’s last days with them.
