Say it isn’t so! Chris Martin says that Coldplay will stop making music by the year 2025. While that’s still three years away, the frontman for the band made the announcement during an interview with Jo Whiley for her BBC Radio 2 Christmas special this past week. Here’s what he has to say.
While Martin says that the band will stop making new music, he did say that the band will continue to tour beyond 2025.

Martin put it this way, “Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that, I think we will only tour. Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalog, as it were, finishes then.”
Whiley, Martin’s co-host for the Christmas music special, said on her morning show that she wasn’t entirely sure the musician was being truthful because he’s “disarmingly honest” in interviews.
“(I’m) never quite sure if he’s joking or being deadly serious,” Whiley said.
As many fans know by now, Coldplay was formed in London in 1996 and released their ninth studio album – Music Of The Spheres – earlier this year. It went straight to number one. Bandmates Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, and Martin met at University College, London. The band went on to put out their first studio album “Parachutes” in 2000.
Since then, they’ve released nine studio albums and collaborated with a slew of different artists, from Beyonce, BTS, and The Chainsmokers.
