King Charles has a bold new plan for the Royal Lodge once he gets Prince Andrew to finally move out. His Majesty wants to produce more commercial revenue and rent out the Lodge for one million pounds annually.
King Charles Wants To Rent Out Royal Lodge
Andrew lives at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. Charles offered for them to stay at Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but he declined.
Charles wanted Royal Lodge to go to Prince William and Princess Kate and their children, but the family is happy where they live now.
The King has some ideas to get Andrew to budge, and one of them includes cutting him off from the 4 million pounds a year he provides to support him.
Part of the reason why Charles wants to oust Andrew from the home is that Andrew had promised he would follow through with any repairs and upkeep the house needs. The Duke of York has not lived up to his side of the bargain.
Insiders think the Royal Lodge should be returned to Crown Estates, and repairs should be made.
“It could then be rented to earn money for them, the King’s coffers, and the country, rather than being a drain on everyone’s resources,”
A royal source explained.
A property expert said a rental price of one million pounds annually is not too extravagant considering its size and notoriety.
Documents revealed that Andrew was supposed to paint the house with two coats of paint every five years. He has failed to do so. This situation is not the King simply picking on his disgraced brother. The Daily Mail reported that Andrew’s last renovation was due to be completed in the previous year. Scaffolding is on display around an entrance close to one of the driveways. The paint is peeling from the walls in sheets. Time has chipped away the pink coating of the stone walls. Black moss is growing from the walls.
Andrew Hasn’t Kept Up With Repairs
The duke has lived at Royal Lodge since 2003, so it’s been over twenty years with no sign of adhering to King Charles’s rules. The lease he signed was very clear that he was responsible for any necessary repairs and renovations. He and the King agreed that Andrew would adequately care for the house.
Andrew, who is no longer a working participant of the royal family due to his association with known sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, may not be able to afford all the repairs the home requires.
Per the agreement, the Duke was also supposed to redecorate inside the home.
The document states that Andrew was expected to “paint with at least two coats of paint and to paper, polish, decorate and otherwise appropriately treat the building’s interior walls.”
Andrew cites his “cast-iron lease” as a reason to stay put and refuse to pack his bags and move out.
A source close to Andrew said,
“As far as Andrew is concerned, he isn’t moving. He’s not going to leave and move onto another property. Whoever is behind this would have to drag him out….”
And King Charles might do that.
