‘Welcome to Plathville’ spoilers indicate that in breaking with the religious traditions of no celebrating any holidays, Ethan and Olivia Plath celebrated halloween in full costume! On Olivia’s instagram she posted the two of them in the cutest, most un-spookiest ghost costumes ever.
They looked like something out of the old disney cartoon short “Lonesome Ghosts” and it was amazing. Of course this is a bit surprising considering Ethan, or probably Olivia either, did not grow up celebrating Halloween. In fact Ethan said that no holidays were celebrated at all in their household which is enough to make one very sad… no Christmas? Really Ethan? Yike.
‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers: Olivia and Ethan Plath get spooky!
Why wouldn’t people let their kids celebrate Halloween? Since I grew up in 90’s homeschool culture (but didn’t really partake in any of it) let me use my vast knowledge to educate the general public. Of course, most (but not all) uber conservative Christians believe that Halloween is a “the devil’s night” and that it should not be acknowledged at any cost.
Most of them won’t let their children dress up, even in the most innocent of costumes (we’re talking non-scary Disney characters, not just your average ghost or vampire), some even preferring to spend their night at church reflecting on prayer for an already lost world. (Their words, most often.)
Some have lightened up over the years, even having “harvest parties” at church where the children are encouraged to dress up as something very innocent (a puppy, a disney character, etc) or, as it used to be with my homeschooling troop, a biblical character.
I never went to these gatherings because my family wasn’t hardcore fundamentalist and didn’t see the harm in going around and getting candy from neighborhood people and knew I wouldn’t be partaking in any satanic rituals that night. But some children were not that lucky, and grew up with parents who did not let them celebrate at all. However, that’s no longer Ethan and Olivia’s problem.
Now that they are out of their fundamentalist homes and embracing a more secular lifestyle, they have chosen to celebrate the holiday in quite possibly the most innocent way ever. Of course they probably didn’t get to go to any Halloween parties because hey, COVID exists and unlike LA where they regularly hold superspreader events and everyone goes, no problem.
The rest of the United States is actually taking this virus seriously and there have pretty much been no Halloween parties this year. So instead, Ethan and Olivia held a Halloween photoshoot, which, is just as cute and maybe even a bit more special in the end.
“Hey, remember 2020 when we dressed up for Halloween and posted it on instagram for all to see?” it’l be something to tell their kids and grandkids, if they ever choose to have any. For now, we stan them having fun as a couple. Stay tuned!!!
