Conservative commentator Candace Owens, who wore the same shirt in white, stood alongside the rapper in a photo she shared on Twitter. On the front of the shirt was a photo of Pope John Paul II and the words “Seguiremos Tu Ejemplo,” which translates to “We Will Follow Your Example.”

Ye, in a speech before the show, touched on classism in fashion, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s Paris robbery, and former manager Scooter Braun, telling him he needed to “make more money” by continuing his 2016 Saint Pablo Tour and more. At one point, he said: “It’s the ultimate stigma. People feel like they have the right to come to my face and call me crazy. Like it doesn’t hurt my feelings. Or like, you don’t have to be crazy in order to change the world.”
He later added: “You can’t manage me. This is an unmanageable situation. You can’t turn the music lower; this is a God’s dream, a dream that can’t happen without the help of God. The journey. The people who believed early. The people who sat in my car, and listened to the early versions of Yeezus.”
Ye, who once famously wore a MAGA hat in support of former president Donald Trump, received mixed responses from fans, but most of the comments called out the rapper. Journalist Jemele Hill commented: “So many folks are trying to excuse Kanye wearing a white lives matter t-shirt as just a troll move or marketing. Maybe it is. But it’s a dangerously dumb message to send for someone with his massive platform.”
