Chris Licht’s bet on Donald Trump has lost money, and CNN is ending his tenure as CEO. Exactly one month after orchestrating the network’s contentious Town Hall event with the GOP front-runner, Licht was fired.
It’s pretty clear that CNN is a Democratic news channel at this point, despite them saying they’re unbiased news… If they got a ton of viewers, they wouldn’t care that it came from Trump or not, they would just be happy about the viewers.
More than 3 million people saw Licht’s attempt to appeal to Trump’s supporters that evening, but there was a significant backlash from CNN viewers and Democrats in Washington, D.C. In the days after the Trump special, the network’s ratings fell precipitously.

Chris Licht’s gamble on Donald Trump has lost money, and his term as CEO of CNN is coming to an end. Licht was dismissed exactly one month after coordinating the network’s acrimonious Town Hall session with the GOP front-runner.
Licht’s attempt to pander to Trump supporters was seen by more than 3 million people that evening, but there was a huge outcry from CNN viewers and Democrats in Washington, D.C. The network’s ratings plummeted in the days after the Trump special.
Licht takes over at CNN in May 2022, following the resignation of Jeff Zucker. During his career, he argued with Don Lemon multiple times about his on-air comments and even his attire, and Licht ultimately dismissed him in April. CNN’s parent company, Warner Discovery, said a panel of executives, including new COO David Leavy, will operate the network until a new CEO is selected.
