The terrible news of a college basketball player’s death comes to us after he was found fatally shot. Phil Urban, who was 20 years old was found in his car and “slumped over” in the driver’s seat. He was in a white Mercedes C300 at 7 p.m. in the Hopewell Valley Nature Preserve. The preserve is located in New Jersey and he was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center after his body was found. He was pronounced dead there.

    True Crime: What Happened?

From what authorities have released so far, they have pointed out that Urban “arranged to meet an acquaintance at the preserve, and then he was shot at some point during that encounter.” As of right now, there is a full investigation being conducted, but there have yet to be any arrests made so far. Of course, rumors are circulating that police may know who he was supposed to be at the nature preserve. There have been plenty of friends and family members interviewed as a way to find out who was there with him and what happened.

Urban was a freshman in college at Post University in Connecticut. He joined the basketball team and he was welcomed with open arms. In fact, when he joined the team, they tweeted, “WELCOME..Phil Urban. Phil is a 6’6 skilled wing from Manalapan, NJ who can play multiple positions. We are excited about what Phil will add to our team both as a player and person.”

When the college learned of his death, the university’s CEO and President, John L. Hopkins wrote, “The community was heartbroken to learn of the death of freshman student, Philip Urban last night. As a member of the Men’s basketball team and a Business Administration major, Philip modeled the attributes of leadership, commitment, and hard work on the court and in the classroom. We hope that his family, friends, and those affected by his passing will find strength during this extremely difficult time.”

This news really hit the campus hard and the basketball team was shocked to find out about his death. As the police continue their investigation, they continue to interview those who knew Urban with hopes to find out who he was meeting on the night that he died. Our hearts go out to his family, his friends, and the basketball team as they try to navigate this hard time and grieve for the loss of Philip.
