Imagine going to a dinner party and having a great time with friends and one of your friends mentions that he has some cocaine. It will really liven up the party, so you all have some. That is when things just go all wrong. This happened in an Orange County, California home where three people died because the cocaine was laced with fentanyl.

William Edward Dick Jr., who is 51 years old was arrested last week and has been charged with selling fentanyl-laced cocaine to two different couples back in October. The victims that died from the cocaine are Samantha Haiman, Andrew Adams, and Desiree Temple.

They were all California residents who were really just trying to have a good time. The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that the dinner was going well and one of them mentioned that they knew where to buy some cocaine. “They eventually contacted Dick who agreed to sell them $200 worth of cocaine, which he delivered to the house where the couples were staying.”
They went on, “After snorting the purported cocaine, all four suffered overdoses, and three of the individuals were pronounced dead at the house the next morning. In most cases, the victims did not know they were ingesting fentanyl, which can be deadly in tiny amounts.”
Dick is charged with one count of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. He is awaiting his sentencing in Santa Ana. He is among six different suspects that have been arrested in connection to several overdoses that have led to deaths in the Southern California region.
The DEA stated, “Often when we discuss the rampant rise of drug-caused deaths, there’s a focus on a number, but today’s announcement is an important reminder that these numbers are more than that- these are our children, loved ones, and friends.
Fentanyl does not discriminate and it’s affecting every community, ethnicity, and generation throughout our country. As we tackle the fentanyl crisis, locally, we are intent on bringing justice to the victims and their families, while putting drug dealers on notice that even selling one pill can have harsh federal penalties.”
This is yet another case that authorities have been dealing with in this area and they are doing their best to get more answers and get this horrible drug off the street. We will continue to monitor the war on fentanyl in hopes that it can be won sooner than later.
