Ethan Plath and Barry Plath have finally reconnected and we think this is good for Ethan. We’ve been waiting on it to happen, because it’s what Ethan has been needing, he has needed to talk to his Dad for a long time. Barry was the man that Ethan modeled himself after, and clearly his parents marriage was the one that he was trying to emulate when he married wife Olivia Plath.
While he got a similar formula (people in the fandom have commented about how actually similar she is to Mom-in-Law Kim Plath), he didn’t get the same person when he married Olivia, Olivia is not going to do what Kim did and just go along with whatever he wants just to keep the peace.
Welcome to Plathville: Ethan and Barry Plath reconnect
Now, we’re not saying that Ethan needs to take all of Barry’s advice because, let’s face it, Barry has trouble connecting with people, and even he has admitted that. But since he is so willing to admit fault now, Ethan needs to consult with him to use him as an example of the contrary, and basically use his parents’ marriage as an example of what not to do.
At this point, it doesn’t look like Barry would mind that seeing as he and Kim are headed for divorce and he probably doesn’t want that to happen to Ethan. He even said Ethan needs to learn not to shut down and shut off all his emotions… that probably took a lot for Barry to say that, because it’s a thing he has trouble with himself.
We’re still not giving Barry any gold star awards here though, because it’s clear to see from just the interaction he has with Kim in the previews from next week that as understanding as he is with the kids, he immediately shuts down with Kim. There’s something about her that just makes him shut down and completely shut her out, and we’re not quite sure what that is yet. We’ll find out next week, but it certainly doesn’t bode well for their marriage. Stay tuned!!!
