Micah Plath has recently gotten some backlash on social media for posting selfies a day after his Mother’s arrest, but most of all, some people within the fandom are crediting him with Kim Plath’s reintroduction to alcohol and implying that it was his fault that Kim got arrested for a DUI. Let’s examine this point if view from a logical standpoint.
For one thing, Micah, is a young 20 something who probably just recently got acquainted with alcohol himself, so it’s kind of a reach to say that he reintroduced him to a substance that she says that she was already familiar with. According to Kim, her college days were a hot mess with lots of drinking and partying to be had without Micah’s influence at all.
In defense of Micah Plath
Also up until this time, Kim had shown that she was a stable adult in Micah’s life and was of sound mind and able to make her own decisions. Strict religious beliefs not withstanding when Micah took his Mother out for drinks on that one episode of the show he was under the impression that he was dealing with a responsible adult. Did he have any idea that Kim was battling any sort of issues with alcohol?
No, he just knew that his Mom abstained from drinking due to her strict beliefs, not because she might have had trouble with the actual substance. Besides, from what we can gather neither Kim nor Barry Plath were very forthcoming about their younger years to their kids, so how would Micah have known?
At the end of the day, we all have to realize that Kim is an adult and in this case made her own choices. Micah didn’t make her continue drinking after that one time, any and all drinking she did on her own time after he went back to California is on her.
If Micah is all the way in California, and we suspect he is, then how on earth could he have made any kind of impact on his Mom back in Florida? Aside from maybe potentially coming out as the whole fandom has speculated about but until we know for sure we’ll just assumed that hasn’t happened. (If it had we would know about it by now thanks to social media.)
The Plath children themselves aren’t responsible for any of this, not even the ones who are adults now. Kim and Barry Plath made their own choices, and we’ll see just how this plays out in the new season that his currently filming. Stay tuned!!!
