Things have gotten progressively worse since she has gotten older and the pain is unbearable now. This is why she sought the help of the doctors. Susan has often referred to her feet as Frankenstein feet. First, she thought she had a bunion and thought it would go away in no time at all. Then she noticed that she was in horrible pain each time she would take a step. The pain isn’t just in her feet, but it goes throughout her entire body. She even had to deal with it on her wedding day. She wanted to wear beautiful shoes to match her gown, but ended up having to wear flip-flops because the pain was so bad!

Not only have these pains changed her life, but they have changed her confidence as well. She doesn’t want people to look at her feet, but when the only shoes that fit are flip-flops, it’s very hard. She also has admitted to wanting to get back in the dating scene. Her husband died about five years ago and she can’t get up the confidence to do it because of her feet!
Susan booked an appointment with Dr. Brad Schaeffer in order to get the help she needs and her confidence back. Dr. Schaeffer tells her that he has never seen a foot that looks like hers. She immediately feels helpless and scared. He does tell her that he can fix it! Her foot needs to be shaped again so that she can walk normally and the pain will subside. He tells her that she will need surgery in order to repair the damage to her foot.
Dr. Schaeffer must shift the bones in her foot and try to align them again. He had to basically make a 90-degree angle with her foot. Sounds painful! He tried a few times before he could get her foot the way he wanted it so her pain would go away. It was a very tough surgery, to say the least. He inserted screws into her toes and foot in order to straighten them out. The surgery took about four hours to complete!
He saw that things weren’t quite right after those four hours and was determined to make Susan’s feet better. With a grand total of six and a half hours in surgery, he was finally happy. Susan has had some time to heal and her foot is looking normal and she is feeling positive and confident once again! Catch My Feet Are Killing Me on TLC at 10 p.m. EST on Thursdays.
